I know for a fact that these photos are taken from FB and used by scammers from countries in Africa and other places. All of the stories are fake as well and they have a certain pattern. A team eventually communicates with the “victimized beloved”. They send love poems almost immediately. Sadly many vulnerable and smart people are entrapped. The victims often are convinced to send large sums of money and believe that this unknown and non-existent person is going to come and marry them and they believe the lies. There are articles to be found online about this. One of the saddest aspects is the victim is so blinded by the possibility of a true love interest, they become unreasonable and continue to send money and are further victimized. The scammers over time gather information about their financial picture and try to drain all of their funds. One crisis after another needs money! One I read was quite intriguing in its sadness. A woman was able to reverse image check the photo and found the man she thought was her future husband, a doctor in NYC. She went to his office and threw herself at him because she was into the relationship she had with the scammer. She could not believe none of it was real. The doctor had to convince this woman over and over that he was NOT the person she thought and in fact that person she was so in love with did not even exist. And since most victims are older and of an age there is nothing the family can do to convince the victim that they are in fact being victimized. The scammers counsel them to stay away from those in the family who are steering the victim away. It becomes a tragedy for the person who was lured. Some victims stay in their delusional state for a very long time. My basic rule is to instantly block those who send me these friend requests. It is funny but if you know about someone who has suffered and lost money even though you want to judge them as foolish, it is tragic.
