in Fresh Birds, Poetry Tags: bees to match, by the balls, cacaphony, calm old-fashioned birds, can we work together or not?, denting windows, doves eat the tar, eat the screen, finch hang upside down, Fresh Birds, global warming, house wrens, knock each other off the feeder, porch, pushing, scolding, woodpecker of aluminum

can we work together or not?
Fresh Birds
global warming’s
got them by the balls
house wrens scold
when I enter the porch
a cacophony of four
chatter me away
from the nest
with four fresh babies
The gold finch tries
to eat the screen
thinks he’s a woodpecker
of aluminum
the doves peck
at the floor of the deck
eat the tar
the purple finch
hang upside down
on the feeder…
knock each other off…
fresh birds:
scolding, pushing, denting windows
.
where are the gentle birds?
perching, sharing, singing the mating song?
bring back the calm old-fashioned birds
with bees to match, bees to match.
