“So many criticize and say that everything is going wrong. But that’s not what the Christian is called to do; instead, he is called to deal with it, to get his or her hands dirty: first of all, as St. Paul told us, to pray, and then not to engage in idle chattering – idle chatter is a plague – but to promote good, and to build peace and justice in truth. This, too, is apostolic zeal; it is the proclamation of the Gospel; and this is Christian beatitude: ‘blessed are the peacemakers’.”
Pope Francis

It’s the birthday of John Coltrane, born in Hamlet, North Carolina (1926). When asked to describe his style, he said, “I start in the middle of a sentence and move both directions at once.” He played with Johnny Hodges, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis before forming his own quartet in 1961.

Lay down our labors with Our Lady’s arms…and find peace in our hearts.

“Our Lady listens to our cries and heals our sorrows. We should learn this: when there are difficulties in life, we go to our Mother; and when life is happy, we also go to our Mother to share these things. We need to go to these oases of consolation and mercy, where faith is expressed in a maternal language; where we lay down the labours of life in Our Lady’s arms and return to life with peace in our hearts, perhaps with the peace of little children.”

Whatever we do for the sick, hungry, thirsty, or strangers, we do to Christ!

“Before pouring out his love for us on the cross, Jesus shares his final wishes. He tells us that the good we do to one of our least brothers and sisters – whether hungry or thirsty, a stranger, in need, sick or in prison – we do to him. In this way, the Lord gives us his “gift list” for the eternal wedding feast he will share with us in heaven.” Pope Francis

On Robert Stone Aug 21, 2017: Children of Light

Stone’s other books include Children of Light (1986); Prime Green: Remembering the Sixties (2007), a memoir; and Fun With Problems (2010), a book of short stories.
He said: “Writing is lonely. […] But most of the time you are in a room by yourself, you know. Writers spend more time in rooms, staying awake in quiet rooms, than they do hunting lions in Africa. So, it’s a bad life for a person because it’s so lonely and because it consists of such highs and lows, and there’s not always anywhere to take these emotional states. […] It’s a life that’s tough to sustain without falling prey to some kind of beguiling diversion that’s not good for you.”

Trust in our love…

9/10/23 Sermon by Mother Kathleen Killian, Pastor
Trust in our love , as You trust in us, Lord. Let no debt remain, but love one another . I am indebted to love you, and you, me.
No condemnation of their souls. Love is infinitely spacious. He opened His heart to all in the dark. Jesus is us and we His own. Perfect Christian power! Serene circumstances. Conflict among those called! Christ lowers Himself,; waits in the valley to arise again. He is our bedrock and grounding! To live is to tend to the life that Jesus brought! Joy, Peace, Patience and Kindness!

touch the flesh of the wounded and humiliated…

“Saint Peter Claver and, more recently, Saint Maria Bernarda Bütler gave their lives for the poorest and the most marginalized, and thus showed the path to real revolution, the evangelical one, not the ideological one, which truly sets people and societies free from the slavery of yesterday, and unfortunately, also of today. In this sense, “taking the first step”… means approaching, bending down, touching the flesh of the wounded and neglected bothers and sisters; and to do so with Christ, the Lord who became a slave for us. Thanks to him, there is hope because he is mercy and peace.”

Pope Francis

Keep your gaze on Mary …and watch the joy, courage, zeal and love move forward in you!

“Let us keep our gaze fixed on Mary, who in her littleness is greater than the heavens, for within her she bore the One whom the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain. Brothers and sisters, let us entrust ourselves to her, asking for a renewed zeal and an ardent love that tirelessly and joyfully bears witness to the Gospel. Onwards! Be courageous, do not tire of moving forward.”

Ask questions and better understand…

IMG_0873

“Why should anyone spend his or her life for the Gospel? That is a question I would ask you… The Christian life moves forward by asking questions, like children who are always asking new things, because at their age they do not understand everything. The Christian life draws us close to the Lord and always asks questions, in order that we will better understand the Lord, better understand his teaching.”
Pope Francis

Our communion with the Holy Spirit entails a change…

“God is close, compassionate and tender. Closeness, compassion and tenderness: treat people like that, personally caring for them, learning their language, respecting and loving their culture, not allowing yourselves to be tempted by worldly forms of security, but remaining steadfast in the Gospel through exemplary moral and spiritual lives. Simplicity and closeness! ” Pope Francis

Your Eyes

Chimpanzee reclining in your tree,
gazing solemnly at me
through brown eyes, ancient, wise,
I wonder what you see.

We’re not so different, you and I.
I imagine, when I try,
you in clothes, me in the tree,
giving you the eye.

I wonder if your soulful gaze
is telling me you feel the days
are warmer than they used to be,
because of human ways.

Somehow things have gone awry.
I wonder if chimpanzees cry.
Your eyes, so sad, I think you know,
your world is passing by.
