On this the first day of Spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) we celebrate new growth and hope for an abundant future.
Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those who are suffering in the world. In particular, those in Ukraine who are undergoing bombardment and tragedy beyond comprehension.
We send strength and peace, peace is always beautiful…stay strong, you are in our thoughts.

Paint for the Baby’s Room

Margaret Hasse

Tumbleweed, Ostrich Egg,

Algonquin—who dreams up

these names for paint on color strips,

labels, and formulas for mixing?

Who thinks of Homeland,

Cedar Chest, Alameda Red?

Of Raleigh Green, good for exteriors,

and Lemongrass for trim?

Poets! To name products

paint companies must hire those

who know the connotations of color,

who know how to be brief and stunning.

Water Mirror is light gray

like May rain or pencil tips.

The beige of Oatmeal Bath

works well with Upbeat Blue.

In a room of Yellow Water Lily,

a little boy lies in a crib.

He is the hue of Warm Earthenware

with a mouth of Deep Mulberry.

A Clearing

by Denise Levertov

What lies at the end of enticing

country driveways, curving

off among trees? Often only

a car graveyard, a house-trailer,

a trashy bungalow. But this one,

for once, brings you

through the shade of its green tunnel

to a paradise of cedars

of lawns mown but not too closely,

of iris, moss, fern, rivers of stone rounded

by sea or stream,

of a wooden unassertive large-windowed house.

The big trees enclose

an expanse of sky, trees and sky

together protect the clearing.

One is sheltered here

from the assaultive world

as if escaped from it, and yet

once arrived, is given (oneself

and others being a part of that world)

a generous welcome.

It’s paradise

as a paradigm for how

to live on earth, how to be private and open

quiet and richly eloquent.

Everything man-made here

was truly made by the hands

of those who live here, of those

who live with what they have made.

It took time, and is growing still

because it’s alive

It is paradise, and paradise

is a kind of poem; it has

a poem’s characteristics:

inspiration; starting with the given;

unexpected harmonies; revelations.

It’s rare among

the worlds one finds

at the end of enticing driveways.

when you can’t get to sleep…

Father

I hate it when you ignore me and keep quiet.

Sometimes I am quiet because I have no comment. You can rage into the night.
You can sing like UTube
You can throw a tantrum.
Let it out!.
I can’t keep you quiet. I don’t have the power.
But maybe I make you feel lonely, fragile, hurting, ignored…
I am all ears…
Fill them with your wrath
Pound your fists on the pillow
Stamp those feet
Cry like a wolf
I will gladly absorb the burden.

I treasure you with all your confusion
impatience and doubt.
Your faith will win out
We shall bow to the spirit
Walk in his light.
Laugh with his love, And shelter our Willie!
ALL IN GOD”S TIME

Sometimes I am hungry, malnourished and confused
Sometimes I feel like I have nothing in me except the will which says hold on
It’s so cold outside
It’s so cold without you

It’s 34 degrees and still snowing
Wrap yourself in a bunting , tightly, fetal position
And gently rock side to side
Humming lullaby
Let the Good Shepherd lift you to his chest
Hear His heartbeat
Feel the rough weave of his robe
Baaaaabaaaaa little lambkin
Rock a lamb baby

Lunar Aquarius
Instead of looking at your Star/Zodiac Sign, this Lunar Horoscope reveals the guidance of your Aquarius Moon Sign. This week, Lunar Aquarius, you have a strong desire to connect with others and to be social in whatever ways you can. There is an emphasis on cultivating connections with friends or family members that you may have inadvertently neglected as of late. Due to circumstances outside of your control you may have not been as present as you would like. This week it is incredibly important that you work to repair any broken bonds, and connect at both an emotional and spiritual level.

There is another significant lunar event this week. A Last Quarter Moon in Sagittarius rises on March 6th representing full-circle change, adaptability, and potent new beginnings. Last Quarter Moons are all about turning points, and last year this exact…

Dark Charms

by Dorianne Laux

Eventually the future shows up everywhere:

those burly summers and unslept nights in deep

lines and dark splotches, thinning skin.

Here’s the corner store grown to a condo,

the bike reduced to one spinning wheel,

the ghost of a dog that used to be, her trail

no longer trodden, just a dip in the weeds.

The clear water we drank as thirsty children

still runs through our veins. Stars we saw then

we still see now, only fewer, dimmer, less often.

The old tunes play and continue to move us

in spite of our learning, the wraith of romance,

lost innocence, literature, the death of the poets.

We continue to speak, if only in whispers,

to something inside us that longs to be named.

We name it the past and drag it behind us,

bag like a lung filled with shadow and song,

dreams of running, the keys to lost names.
