Fat Bob

Yesterday Don and I visited Bob in the dementia wing. We showed him the Crazy Photo Booth photos that the grand kids made. You can view those on:

So we showed Bob how it works on an iPad. Many laughs later, here is the out-put. Make an appointment if you want a crazy portfolio of yourself from the Crack-up Team of Jeanne and Don!

Big Lyrics

Yesterday, in the car, in torrential rain, we listened to USB sounds of Bette Midler and friends singing slang tunes from the 1950’s. Ouch! Harsh sounds!
Instead, I prefer the language of Seamus Heaney:

Read out loud.
Listen carefully to the vowels.
Let them echo.

And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightening of flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully-grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you’ll park or capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open

Haiku from Sunday Liturgy:
The Reverend Eileen Weglarz

From seclusion, Christ
feeds famished, heals needy throngs
nature’s gifts are shared.

“What have you got?” Christ
asks. Then invisibly, makes
two into five thousand.

Fireworks
by Rebecca Kai Dotlich

Emerald glitter
fills the sky;
a thousand dashing
dragon eyes
sparkle! flash!
spiral,
climb —
leaping,
leaving Earth
behind.
Roman candles
sizzle,
shatter,
diamonds dazzle,
rubies
scatter,
spilling silver
stars of fire–
blasting bits
of copper wire.
Sapphires crumble
in the sky,
tinsel tumbles
down to die,
onto city streets
and roads;
CRACKLE–
POP!
The sky
explodes!

First Flight
by Amy Ludwig Vanderwater

Mommy, I’m scared to be this high.
All owls are scared on their first try.

My tail feathers feel so tingly with fear.
You can do it. Calm down. Careful now. Steer.

I can’t see a thing through all this black.
Just go to Spruce and come right back.

FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP–WHOOOSH!
FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP FLAP–SWOOOSH!

Look, Mom! I made it! Wow! I can fly!
I knew you could. You were born for sky.

In the air
in the plane
we fall
and turn
blown and shook.

Look for comfort:
lullabies
a steady grip
a Southwest rock-a-bye.
