10 reasons why it's good to be an Episcopalian by Robin Williams

10 reasons why it’s good to be an Episcopalian by Robin Williams

Robin made us laugh
by joking about his quirks:
humility’s smile

I practiced to sing in church today, my first solo.
But the pastor told us Robin Williams was, in fact, an Episcopalian,
and I saddened so much, at his death, I couldn’t breathe to sing.
She placed this shirt in the back of the church to view, and I want to share it with you.
Jesus is always looking for faith.
The second He sees humility, he touches you with grace.

Quicksilver Speed

I am practiced with the Internet, not a genius.

My eighty year old friends are beginners, not idiots.

Relearning one’s touches with one’s fingertips on a tablet is “light years” away from plunking on a steel typewriter.

At the Apple store, my knuckles struck a command

while my fingers selected a teeny icon

and the iPad rushed to comply with my errant knuckle.

My location disappeared, and I’m lost.

The fog descends.

“FAILURE TO NAVIGATE”

I slump in my seat while the apple tutor explains what my knuckle did.

He resets the screen with a tiny tap in the precise spot needed.

I realize I need plenty of pointing at precise spots, with precise pressure, at precise angles, for precise duration.

All these touches can happen with my naked finger or a stylus, which doesn’t slide as easily as the finger.

No need to panic.

Between taps, I can take my time to discern the next command.

Discerning can be slow.

Then the iPad will speedily comply.

And I can once again discern the next path.

iPad speeds. etc etc

I’m caring. The tablets fast. What a team we are!

After I care, I share! With YOU!

Overwhelmed

Last night
Media came to visit
intimately.

It tweeted of Robin Williams’ suicide.

Don showed me three of his “Mork and Mindy” TV Shows
while we wondered at his choice of costume, rigid body, alien gestures and definition of money:
“Money goes to the bank and meets other money:then together, they make more.”
I thought how light, lean and hopeful he looked. His ‘improv’ played my heart strings
.

I remembered the “World According to Garp”, about a family’s devotion to each other.

And all the Disney characters who brought heroism, larger than life, to my cartooning students.
Some of their animated gestures were taken from Robin’s mimes.

Then one day, he got serious.
About comedy.
About entertainment.
About money.
About family.
It was overwhelming.

He took his breath
and
set it free
in the spirit world.

The audience is quiet.
The curtain fell.
Now he is with us in NY
All the way from CA

We breathe for him.
Holding light, lean and hopeful
Just short of overwhelmed.
Creative
Eternally.

Meeting Kavi at Ginger’s House

I like the way,
at Ginger’s house
we took turns
around the circle.

First there was Kavi,
17 months old,
circling the rooms:
his carry-case abreast.

He crooned-
and delicately chewed
the cranberries and nuts
to Indian/African tunes.

From 17 months to
77 years old we each
took turns being
acknowledged:
aunties, uncles, cousins, moms and dads.

Spoke of opera, museums,
moving films we’ve made
created from a place
that played and sang and danced:

“How best can we take care
of earth, and man, and woman?
Teach our tiny ones to care,
discover life and share?”

Together.
Together,
always in this circle.
