waiting for us was painful:
dressing in your best
hosting the visitors.
in the small space
minutes drag
sap your strength
your heart beat is frail
but your soul is universal
God lifts you to His immensity
We saw David Gatti’s work,
calligraphic greetings,
designs shared
artfully displayed
affectionate galleries
laundry done by family
Next we want a picnic
outdoors; menu your choice
calligraphy decorations
the drive will be swift now
we know the way
to kiss hello, goodbye
to listen to your heart
grateful to know your immensity
your soul’s connections
flourishes:
hair-line
finishings

My struggle is to use the life in order to transcend it, to convert it into legend. Stanley Kunitz

Her hand-me-downs
This fine day arrived.

For camera

I wandered lonely down the hill
Past trees, porcupines , deer and hawks
Brushing off competition’s fangs …
Gathered prompts
Scribed poems
Posted rhymes
Winced at criticism
Stumbled on sand
Washed the dust away
Found Hutchinson Lane;
Sure-footed
Open hearted journey.

Annika, Oliver go go go”
It’s time for Oliver:
“Bikes go fast

Oliver, Annika go go go”

Work of sight is done; now do the heart work on the pictures within you.
Rainier Maria Rilke
Click! goes the shutter on the glitter that is you!
The vibrant color of your stance:
The chance that I might model you:
An athlete’s discipline.
Click! goes the shutter on the chatter that you speak!
The truth articulated:
I want to plant the words:
Then cultivate their growth.
Click! goes the shutter on the matter that you bring!
The vision that you carry:
To the altar of your life:
To offer as a blessing to us all.
A dedication to Emily.

There’s a blossom on my bottom
where a caterpillar kissed me;
and another on my shoulder
from a spider-bite blushed pink-y.
These bugs, they think I’m candy,
Look for nectar in my family;
Leave gingham prints upon my skin
And phantoms in my belly!

Alert
You awake with a start!
What called you up? Vertical.
Blinking. Catching sight.
What pierced your ears?
Bells? Beeps? Roars?
Brutes closing in?
C A L M …
It pulses also while you sleep.
You are not D I R E C T O R …
But babe in arms.

Fishing for Poetry
I rudder left,
The boat turns right;
Opposites x me in the bow,
Steady me in stern.
I cast on right,
The wind blows left;
Below the fish swims toward my lure,
Bites the weightless hook.
It is a grasp-less grasp-
a quicktime dance of sea.
