some of the grands are still crawling
and they need to grab the nearest Nana fabric
to chew on
while other delicious scents can brush the lace
and call over the pets
to the cookie jar
the pumpkin pie
blueberries

pie
nana feet
toes
and
essence of comfort!

painting by Neil Waldman
play God:
split the reflection
layer the birch trunks
under the fall leaves-
and above the dots of moonlit dapples
and the deep black ground
above the edge of blue water
and white trunks
diminishing dots of ghostly waving trunks
subdued orange reflections
blue shadows
and that deep black ground reflected at the bottom
another black hole of possibilities

middle age has a tough time turning to look
grands have no trouble
turning to grin at Nana-
but my son
has to follow my weird directions
and wonders ’bout my sanity
“face away”, he wonders
“from my mother on Mother’s Day”
with my biking shoes
and their LLBean boots
purchased for them by Nana- obliging,
diligently winking with side looks
back to the village that raises them.

Ponds of Fox Hollow
I wanted to buy a week with the
Ponds of Fox Hollow,
not because of the boating in the pond
or the fishing
or the indoor heated pool and hot tub
or the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condos
or the opportunities for my grandchildren from Austerlitz to play in such beauty,
but for the camaraderie
that I could have
with all the silver haired members of the Board
who dedicate their service
for decades
with grace

subdued by the waves, heat, attentive parent, grandparent, and Lenox
my grands find their fins
swim under water,
practice sharing water space
water waves
water heat
water manners
water rumbling
water towels
and water’s baptism in a spa
from the God of Lenox!

Tags: campaign manager, condo at the Ponds at Fox Run in Lenox, fish, I love you, Nana, nana of the year, Pool Happiness, splashes indoor pool, supper, swim, thunder storm overhead, under the roof, weather a swim

Jeanne’s watercolor of Owen at 3 years old
“I love you, Nana!”
shouts Oliver as he splashes into the indoor pool
for the 100th time
clutching his noodle to buffer his plunge-
to allow him to weather a swim
under the roof
during the thunder storm overhead.
I did indeed
find us a condo at the Ponds at Fox Run in Lenox
which offers him swim, fish, supper
in all kinds of weather.
Perhaps I’ll name him my campaign manager
for my run as “nana of the year!”

the international symbol for the Daughters of Wisdom, a French community of nuns I served in for ten years: 1957-1967
the motto
was “God Alone”
Deus Solus!
I learned to look at the world as She does!
Lately on the roads of Western Massachusetts,
I listen to my GPS
to follow the ribbons of curved roads
through the vales
over the hills
bridging the ponds
edging the lakes
spying the wild turkeys
Tanglewood
Jacob’s pillow
Lenox, Lee, Stockbridge and Great Barrington
Western MASSACHUSETTS
in all its May GLORY !
This state peeled its way from England
and moved west
settling estates by the wealthy
which would be given to every man
of every color
to nurture under our spacious skies
where our GPS looks down
and is often pleased!
(Yesterday I met a woman and man from Ireland. She taught Literature and he, Geography. We will stay in touch so I can learn more about Belfast and we can share the glory of the light coming through the dappled leaves) (from The Ponds on Fox Hollow)

Program Advisors
elegant Berkshire estate setting
called to me
for a day spa experience
in whole health renewal
I phoned Lenox
but spoke to Faye in Tucson
who led me to the Premium Outlets in Lee
and the exercise attire I needed for my activities.
They were phenomenal:
dining
cardio water fitness
balancing and movement
and a hour massage.
In between
I walked the cool dry hallways
and viewed the outdoor options.
privacy and friendliness were everywhere
as I navigated for the first time.
surrounded by art,
music,
craft,
and mysticism!

Full Length Mirror
Try finding the bra
To secure 4 breasts
(Including those on my back of 77 years).
Try hooking the back before
I wind it round
In 90 degree heat
locking in every curve of my body,
taming in all the gravity bumps.
The package in the full length
mirror squawks
gone is the disembodied molded bra
the flat unworn panties in 2 dimensions
Sigh!
Gravity endeavors to touch my toes
nipples looking down
I’m grounded.
The full length mirrored flight
is not for me.
I’m going with touch!
Waving to the rhythm
of the waves
doing my hula
blissfully!
