How To Listen in a Snowstorm

Snowfall is a call to paint!

Snowfall is a call to paint!

Is snow a blanket?
Canvas bag o’er head? or call
to rainbow the white?

Whose toy is this?

Whose toy is this?

Whose toy is this?

Lightning is your gift
Shudder-at-phenomena:
Dazzle bolt to share.

What does the baby poet know?

Can I grasp the snowflakes?

Can I grasp the snowflakes?

What is poetry?
But the grabbing of snowflakes
As they blow… bye and bye.

Poppies in Watercolor

Red on green vibrates!

Red on green vibrates!

Does the red call the butterfly?

Does the red call the butterfly?

1 Pick a flower you want to be intimate with.
2 Wearing a blindfold, feel it with your hands. Pull petals off. Rub between finger tips.
3 Use only one color to better see the light through the petals.
4 Study a scientific diagram to see the actual anatomy.
Watch videos of poppies in a field, blowing.
5 Try to paint a silk poppy that doesn’t droop, dry out or change every day.
Draw it from above, below and eye-to-eye. Memorize the contours of stem, petals, stamen, etc
Do not allow the background color to dominate. Green enhances its opposite, red. Neutral colors contrast with the primaries.
Make the painting about the flower, not the other elements of the composition.
6 Make many sketches and be yourself.
7 Crop! crop! crop!

Do zebras think in stripes?

Do zebras think in black and white?

Do zebras think in black and white?

Do zebras think in
black and white? Hide behind their
stripes: plucking toothpicks?

The musician playing in the sound track is AMR DIAB. He comes from Egypt, and performs his song, “Nour El Ain” (The Mind’s Eye). The song blends Arabic Music with Gypsie King’s style rumba and flamenco.

The photos of family and friends can be found in my Blurb Books which you can preview for free at Blurb.com (Books by Jeanne Poland)
Enjoy the rhythm of the moments!

warm and cool indoor and outdoor light

warm and cool
indoor and outdoor light

snow turns blue-sunrise;
indoor lights burn fireside
candles in windows.
