AGE

AGE
gives me an ace a day.

At night,
the curtain closes.

At day…opens:
drama unfolds.

Wisdom
is born.

Humility
bites me.

Simplicity
is my costume.

Color
my set.

Bravo!
to the AGE display!

Always,
uncut……never late.

otherwise…

Otherwise
I got out of bed
on two strong legs.
It might have been
otherwise. I ate
cereal, sweet
milk, ripe, flawless
peach. It might
have been otherwise.
I took the dog uphill
to the birch wood.
All morning I did
the work I love.
At noon I lay down
with my mate. It might
have been otherwise.
We ate dinner together
at a table with silver
candlesticks. It might
have been otherwise.
I slept in a bed
in a room with paintings
on the walls, and
planned another day
just like this day.
But one day, I know,
it will be otherwise.
Jane Kenyon
from Otherwise, 1996

I got out of surgery

with a healing incision.

There was no C-diff

or RSV.

I simply glowed!

Never caught pneumonia.

immune system thrived!

never had respiratory arrest.

We danced together

in the ballroom.

twirled around breathing easily

waving hips to the music

sliding our feet smoothly

in sync with each other

in our golden years.

Thinkers and their eggs

3EggsPoem

eggs by Jeanne in inDesign (with her tech: Don, patiently lining up three eggs)

When I taught in Catholic elementary school,

I had to remind the children every day that they were a circle

and there was no way to be first on line.

They were fiercely competitive

when the essence of the Good News was to be a happy circumference,

a yellow yolk in the white.

Most of the children were black,

but all shades use the same colors to paint their portraits.

It’s a question of values, isn’t it?

Grander than Emoji

stock-vector-winking-and-smiling-emoticon-424290493

Everyone is a microcosm-

while art can push our subconscious “buttons” to merely emote

language (if intelligent) can encourage us to go beyond the stroking of “self” and

collaborate!

to work on something together for the sake of

grander things

than personal gratification, amusement or entertainment.
