Tea in Maine

A poem is sound:       Ruth Grierson plays  violin.

A poem is memory:      Scottish jigs & ballads;

A poem is taste:            all kinds of music but rap!!!!!!

A poem is smell:            while we sip English Tea

A poem is a stage:        at the library;

A poem is a story:         hear about:

the ceremonial burning

                                        of old buildings that need replacement
the Fire of 1947;

                                      that stopped when the fireball hit the sea!
the flames brought forth

                                              the aspen, birch and new seeds that burst in the heat!

See with third eye

Breathe in the Spirit

Blossom with passion

Perceive light and shadow

Discern

Listen

Create like the creator’s daughter

Celebrate diversity!

Mangling a Proverb:

He is not wise that parrots the wise.

Wendy Videlock

Last night
we listened to
Wesley McNair
the Maine Poet Laureate
@the delightful Southwest Harbor Library.
He read:
“When She Wouldn’t”
a poem about his Mom’s death
a lost child
with complex family feelings from the Ozark’s.
Her language:
“Mo”
“This a way-that  a way”
“Goin’”
brought reconciliation and gratitude
in the end.

His notes,
written in longhand
told a harsh story
its grief
and glory.

Many poets read
when he had finished.

They parroted
the sentiments;
but mostly griped about the cold winter.

And thus,
left his wisdom in the snow

to thaw
its lonesome way home.

But in arcs, epicycles, spirals and gyres.

Nothing living grows in cubes, cones, or rhomboids,

Epigraph:

Stories move in circles…So it helps if you listen in circles….And part of the finding is the getting lost.  And when you’re lost, you start to look around and to listen.    Deena Metzger

I looked :

and found fisted anger:

rage in my cells.

listened;

saw the way to heaven

was forgiveness.

emptied the rage;

grew redemption.

Footnote:

On this date in 1911, Dutch physicist Heike Kamerlingh Onnes discovered superconductivity using mercury.

You can run a charge through a loop of superconducting wire, and it will hold its charge indefinitely, even when the battery is removed.
