Grandma@Christmas

Who says tiaras are only for the young?

Who says tiaras are only for the young?

I’m modeling my Grandma with crullers in kitchen
a well-worn chair,carpeted stairs,and visits to church.

With 30 grandchildren stuffed around the tree and
an 8mm Movie of carols and “Oh Holy Night”!

The elves deliver the gifts: pajamas to serve for 2 years:
made by hand by Grandma, one set for summer and one for winter.

Every gift is enough; every person enough;
we watch as each adds to the fun; we share “til each has enough!

Enough is our fare; It’s smiles everywhere
and early to bed for us all.

Awake the next morn, to wonder at light, suffused
with enough to guide through the day…

Enough for us all!

Inside the Box

redbox
Inside the box
are lox
for breakfast.

And socks
for hiking
on rocks.

And blocks
of colored
wood.

There are fox:
non-tox-
ic wild ones

inside the box;
they’ll eat the lox,
the socks, the blocks:
and then the box.

All I’ll have left
is bites of box
and fox!

Southwest

Etihad 777 flight

Southwest, orange, red and blue
breaks the sound barrier of my ears.
Sings and jokes; stretches, bends
small details ’til they’re snug; no fears!

Breaks the sound barrier of my ears:
flies above 30,000 feet of clouds:
hums its path ‘bove westward planes below.

Sings and jokes; stretches, bends
in cabin’s curves: accommodate each soul:
infants, old, and broken boned.

Small details ’til they’re snug: no fears!
the weather’s fair; the night sky drops its skirts
on sleepy tired folks who land and find their rest.

TALENT

Leave Dance Prints

Leave Dance Prints

Tap your talent on the head;
Raise it up!
Shout it out!
Reproduce it!

Raise it up!
Form a Band of Talents!
Then strut that tune and play it loudly, eve and noon.

Shout it out!
It’s unique like you:
Personalize and do

Reproduce it!
Million-fold! Populate
Creative-fold: young and old!

TELLING TIME

tick tock  click clock

tick-tock click clock

Introduced the “clock-man” to my 4 year old:
Little hand, big hand, forward move: one, two, three.
Time passes on the clock, on the calendar too
But touchstones stay the same for you and me.

Little hand, big hand, forward move: one, two, three.
Tick-tock, click-clock arrows speed to lead
Us to the dreams we paint: the hopes, the deeds.

Time passes on the clock; on the calendar too
Weeks, to months, to years, to lives…
Then on to memories worn on our hides, insides, tribes.

But touchstones stay the same for you and me.
The elders molt to spirits; the new reach for our care
Our nostrils scent the musk of need and nurture everywhere.

What Child is This?

Quenby-Michael-Annika
Woman-Man-Child

What child is this?
Meek, mild child;
Full of power-almighty?

What child is this?
Summons light-bright:
Radiates its energy?

What child is this?
Makes stars mid dark;
Carves paths to trod?

What child is this?
Intimate;
Exuding trust and promise?

What child is this?
Eternal earth born:
Sun stands still!

COMPASSION

COME PASSION!

COME! Passion!
Fire me to heat the souls and seeds!
Glow, grow me to light their way
Spread me to embrace their needs.

Fire me to heat the souls and seeds;
Inspire, conspire, inquire
With compassion.

Glow, grow me to light their way
A beacon, torch and lighthouse
Of compassion.

Spread me to embrace their needs
Rip me open ’til I spill
With compassion.

Rise and Fall-Rise and Fall-Rise and Fall

This AM a cranial-sacral therapist I know sent me a Dutch research paper that proved that before the heart is formed in a human embryo, there is motion, a movement from the cell to the flow of blood which then merges to form the heart.
Sounds like the rise and fall, rise and fall that you chant in your Talent Grows cycle!

Rise and Fall, Rise and Fall
Struggling with the constant pull of gravity
A circular dance,
pressing on through constant change
Rise and Fall Rise and Fall
A woman, wife, teacher and student,
adding more facets as her talent grows
Rise and Fall, Rise and Fall
Cascading through the give and take,
First bobbled and broken,
Becoming more adept as she finds her stride
Rise and Fall Rise and Fall
Adding slowly onto the circular motion
Holding on tight and letting go, trying to recapture time
Rise and Fall Rise and Fall
Her talents grow…

Hawk Comes Next

Sue Delp’s Peace Dove

I’d love to illustrate this poem in the shape of a hawk.

FALCON
Hey up there,
Falcon or Hawk or something bigger than a Jay.
City-scape observer on your telephone-wire perch,
Balancing fearless though currents rush your feet and
Highway breeze blasts your feathers.
Taking the truck exhaust slap-in-the-face like a sailor manning his bow,
Breathing rocking seas and misty horizons into lifeblood.
Hey you brazen daylight hunter,
How dare you catch a creature from my yard,
Swoop down unnoticed
While we clatter,
Frolicking toddler and hose-spraying and big dog
That could eat you if she knew how.
Stop eyeing us sideways and looking down
You smart thing,
You smirking piece of regal talent.

I’D LIKE TO HEAT OLD BONES WITH FIRE

This is a poem I composed to address the POST SANDY RECOVERY EFFORTS Nov 9, 2012

Please listen to the lyrics of “Id like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony”
http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/n/new_seekers/id_like_to_teach_the_world_to_sing.html

I’d like to heat old bones with fire
A constant licking warmth;
I’d like to tent the darkness out
And light an oil lamp.

I’d like to hold a lost scared hand
And grasp it close with love;
Grow food to share and pets to care
And twinkling stars above.

I know you know just what I see
All company so soothed-
It spreads a hope that future holds
The best that’s shared improved!
